Read your cycle count (Battery Health)

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Battery, then Battery Health.
  3. Take a screenshot: press the side button and volume up together.
  4. In Cyclewise, tap Pick screenshot (or Check in, then the screenshot option) and choose it in the photo picker. Cyclewise asks for no access to your photo library: the system picker only hands over that one image.
  5. Check the numbers on the confirm sheet (cycle count, maximum capacity), fix any of them, then save.
  6. You can delete the screenshot from Photos afterwards. Cyclewise does not keep it.

Show a day of use (Battery Usage)

  1. In Settings › Battery, scroll to the daily usage chart and tap one day's bar.
  2. Take a screenshot while that day is selected.
  3. In Cyclewise, add it in the pace step or a check-in. Up to three days give a steadier pace. You can also set the pace with the slider.

No cycle count on your iPhone's Battery Health screen? Choose "I can't" and pick how old the phone is: Cyclewise estimates the cycles and marks them as estimated.

Common questions

What is a charge cycle?

A cycle is using 100% of your battery's capacity in total, not plugging in once. Use 60% today, recharge, use 40% tomorrow: that adds up to one cycle. Recent iPhones show the count in Settings › Battery › Battery Health.

Is it accurate?

It is an estimate and says so. Cyclewise uses Apple's design target (80% of original capacity at the rated cycles, under ideal conditions), assumes health falls in a straight line with cycles, which is cautious, and measures your pace from your own check-ins. It never promises a health percentage. When your screenshot shows a maximum capacity, that is your iPhone's own reading, not ours.

Does it work on older iPhones?

Yes. Apple rates iPhone 14 and earlier at 500 cycles and iPhone 15 at 1,000, so the same pace reaches 80% about twice as fast on an older phone; Cyclewise uses the right rating for your model (source: support.apple.com/en-us/101575). If your iPhone doesn't show a cycle count in Settings, tell Cyclewise roughly how old it is: it estimates the cycles from age and pace, and marks the result as estimated. iPhone 16 and 17 are not named on Apple's page, so Cyclewise uses the iPhone 15 figure and says it is inferred.

What about heat and fast charging?

They matter, and Cyclewise does not measure them. The plan counts cycles only: heat, long stretches at 100% and fast charging also age a battery, so the real date can come sooner. The charge-limit what-ifs follow a general lithium-ion rule of thumb and are labelled estimates.

My battery is wearing fast. Is it under warranty?

Maybe. Apple's one-year limited warranty covers defective batteries, and consumer law where you live may give you more rights. If your battery wears unusually fast in its first year, Cyclewise says so, keeps your readings as a record and points you to Apple. Apple decides, after its own diagnostic. Cyclewise is not legal advice and does not sell repairs or AppleCare.

Is it really free?

Yes. Cyclewise is free: no ads, no subscription, no in-app purchase, nothing locked. It is made by one independent developer. If it is useful to you, you can leave an optional donation from the Support screen in the app or from our support page. A donation is a gift: it unlocks nothing and you never have to.

What do you collect?

Your readings and settings stay on your iPhone, and screenshots are not kept. Cyclewise sends anonymous usage statistics (for example: onboarding finished, a check-in added, the goal changed, with your iPhone model and a rough pace: light, typical or heavy) to PostHog. Never cycle counts, capacities or screenshots. Turn them off any time in Settings › Usage statistics. The optional donation page is run by a third party, with its own privacy policy.
